Following a day of wandering around Palermo and visiting the
Evita museum, a hunger was starting to brew.
So what better way to stem this by heading back to Siga La Vaca for
another Meat-athon. Myself, Matt and
Mike (Dutch guy from the hostel) took a long walk to the restaurant just to
make sure the hunger was at its peak before devouring between us at least 2kg
of meat. We decided to take the long
walk back too which kind of helped... but not enough for the pain to start
kicking in in the morning with the realisation that we are indeed fat and have
eaten far too much.
So, next morning; up very very early and not feeling
fantastic. Luckily enough we’d planned
an easily day of just hopping across to Uruguay for the day to visit an old
historical town called Colonia de Sacramento.
The ferry ride was bumpy to say the least and after Kate turned a
lighter shade than pale it was time to head upstairs to try and gain some
stability.
This town of Colonia is most famous for having changed hands
many a time between the Portuguese and Spanish and was used as a bargaining
tool if ever one of the nations needed something. And that’s pretty much it... There are a lot of old ruins within the town
and with every ruin the guide would give us the history that once there stood a
large house/church/fort/wall etc... Which was then blown up. The guided tour lasted about 45 minutes and
showed us the whole of the old city. Two
of the key sites in Colonia are that it has some of the cleanest waters in the
area (despite being brown in colour from the high levels of clay) and the
lighthouse has pretty good views stretching across town. After walking around once again and taking a
few photos we decided that it was time for lunch to be followed by the next 3
hours chilling out in the sun waiting for the ferry back to Buenos Aires.
All in all... not a fascinating one.
