Before heading into the distance and writing about Thailand, I thought I'd share with you first one of the more 'interesting' people that I have encountered along the way.
Mr. Chang is the owner of the Reggae Mansion hostel in Penang, Malaysia and - so I was told - had been coming up with new ideas over the past year to boost business and bring an more entertainment feel to the place.
Previous 'million dollar' ideas have been to hold quiz nights, talent shows, have DJs playing in the bar and drinks promos; however that was yet to get the crowds of Malaysians flocking. So on my first night there he decided to have a live musician in the bar. What he told everyone was going to be a full band turned out to be an 80 year old guy with an organ keyboard playing some of the delights of the western world whilst butchering them with his extremely broken English and lack of rhythm...
Half way through Mr. Chang decided to take control of the microphone and wow the crowd. Favourites included 'Country Roads' and some Bob Marley classics; but the highlight was his rendition of 'Unchained Melody'.
Needless to say Mr. Chang thought it was a roaring success and carried it on for the next 2 nights I was there...
